Takeaways:

  • This was way more difficult than I expected. Getting the ticks to tuck was easy, but getting the spacing between the axis and the series correct was a pain.
  • There might be a better way to do this, but I couldn't find it. The two things I tried were:
    • Adding a "fake" item to insert some spacing between the Y-axis labels and the first Bainbridge
    • (ECharts only) Extending the grid lines with a shadow blur offset 35px to the left
    • (Vega only) Adding xOffset to the series and labelOffset to the axis labels to move them to the right

The last two solutions ultimately worked, but they required a lot of effort to curate!
